I started off by giving the class a treasure map.  The map was just one I drew of our building.   It was rolled up and told them they could follow it to a treasure.. Then, as they were opening the map I turned off the lights. We then spoke about how they could probably find the treasure (return to Heavenly Father) without the map but how much easier and more direct their path would be if they could see the map (patriarchal blessing). Then we talked about how a patriarchal blessing is like a map. It gives direction to reach our potential. We then read a couple of verses in D&C 66 and reviewed what William McLellin was told in those verses and how the instruction he received could benefit him.
