A Recipe for Life

In this object lesson you will show how a patriarchal blessing is just like baking bread...

Display a recipe card:   This shows us what to do.

Blessing: Tells us the Lord's plan for our life.

Display Pan: We need to prepare the pan with cooking spray so the dough won't stick.

Blessing: We need to prepare ourselves spiritually before we receive a blessing.

Display Yeast: Yeast lighten the bread and causes it to rise.

Blessing: Lifts us during times of trial, lightens our burdens.

Display Sugar: Makes things taste better. Otherwise our bread will taste bland.

Blessing:  Through our patriarchal blessing we learn that life isn't bland and pointless. We have a purpose for being here. This knowledge adds meaning and direction to our lives, and helps us meet our potential.

Display Oil: This keeps the bread from getting hard.

Blessing: Our blessing warns us of our weaknesses.  This can help to guide us through life without becoming hard-hearted, so that we can obtain our eternal rewards.

Display Flour: This is the main ingredient of our bread.

Blessing: The main reasoning for receiving our patriarchal blessing is because Heavenly Father loves us and wants to bless us, and guide us, so we can return to Him.

Display Timer:  For bread to turn out properly, it needs to rise and bake for a certain amount of time.

Blessing:  Our patriarchal blessing is a plan for our whole life. It tells us what we can do doing our time on earth if we are faithful and keep our covenants.
