Mosaic Art

In Ancient Rome, artisans pieced together small stone squares to create exquisite floors that were both a feast for the eyes and a cool treat for the feet on days when temperatures soared.  Using the same method, you can create mosaic art too.  First, sketch a basic design (to go along with your lesson) on poster board or heavier paper.  Cut or tear colored paper into a bunch of small squares.  Working in sections, apply glue to the poster board and press on the paper squares, spacing them slightly apart just like a stone mosaic.  You could adapt this craft to be used for any nursery lesson.  I bring mosaic squares occasionally for the children to make their own picture(s) and they love it!
