Fishin' Around

This is what I did for Lesson 44 but it could be used with any lesson.  It does require the "Fishin' Around" Game if someone has it.

Supplies:

- Fishin' Around Game
- Make color copies (or black and white and color them) of fish cards that just have a single fish (1 red, 1 purple, 1 green, 1 yellow).  I made two or three of each color.  On the back I wrote ways they could help out at church like: Be quiet during the sacrament, fold arms in the halls, answer the teachers questions, offer to say the prayer, share toys, help clean up toys, smile at others, be nice and don't argue, etc.  (You could obviously tailor this to any lesson.)

I let the children stand around the short table with the fishing game.  I only got out one fishing pole.  I would start the game and let one child catch a fish while the others watched.  I would let them try on their own and help them if they needed it.  When they got a color I would stop the game, let them match it to the same color card and then read the card to the class ("We can help at church by....".  Then the next child would get a turn.  (Leave the caught fishy with the child or set it aside so you don't run out of cards.)  The children loved it!  Then, I let them fish one more time just for fun.

It works better if you can split your group size to eight children or less.  We always split for the lesson portion as our nursery is very large.

NOTE:  If they could do something on the card, like smile, be quiet, fold arms, etc., I would have them show me...which helps reinforce it and take more time.
