One
thing we did with our Nursery children was to show how we become members of His
church. We follow His example and are baptized. I made footprints
out of construction paper and taped them on the floor from the Nursery room to
outside. I told the children we were going to follow in Jesus' footsteps.
I had the children step on the footprints and when we got outside, I had them
all sit on a blanket. I gave part of the lesson out on the grass. I
then had a big tupperware bin and a plastic baby doll. I showed them
(using the doll) that when we are baptized, they go down into the water and come
back up. Each child had a chance to put the doll under the water. We
spoke a little more of baptism and showed them some pictures of Christ's
baptism. Then we all followed the footsteps back to the Nursery room.

World Sticks
- Do this craft to represent that we belong to a world wide church. I
outlined (very generally) a world on each Styrofoam ball and the children
painted them with green and blue tempera paint. (I suppose you could use
Crayola Markers...not sure, but it should work too). Put popsicle stick in each
ball before you start. This is more of a one-on-one craft. I brought
an old t-shirt from home to put over their clothes. Being that we did this
one-on-one, it wasn't messy.

Badges
Candy Bar
- Part of being a member of this church is learning service and sacrifice.
Challenge the children to share a candy bar with someone they love and
appreciate.
Church Blocks
Draw
or trace a paper doll for each child to color and, on the back, write or draw
something he or she can do to be a good member.

I made simple
chapel out of brown construction paper.
Using a square for the central body and a triangle for the roof. I put a steeple
on top of the roof. I marked front doors in the center of the square at the
bottom and cut along the lines so the doors could open out. Turning the chapel
over I glued a sheet of white paper on the back covering the doors. When you
turned it over and open the doors you saw white paper. I printed "I Belong to
the Church of Jesus Christ" I left enough room and have done the following a
different times:
*Let them draw themselves
*I drew a simple stick figure of a boy and of a girl. I let them glue the one
for them and color the figure.
* I found a black and white drawing that showed a Primary class and a teacher
teaching them out of the "Friend"
