Each child picks a colored egg to open from the basket. Tell what the object represents from scripture
stories from the flannel packets and Children's Scripture Stories. The reason they are not all stories is for variety to keep the activity on the nursery level.

Make your own Book of Mormon

Handout
by Amy Busch / ga01152008

Display many books, including the scriptures (recipe book, schoolbook, library
book, other Church books, etc.). Have the children discuss why each book is
important and what each one teaches us. Discuss what makes the scriptures
similar to and different from other books.
On the board I made a chapel using 3
separate pieces of paper. One rectangle, (the base of the church,) one triangle
sits on top of the rectangle to the side, (the roof) and a steeple (to the side
of the chapel. The picture of the baby getting blessed by the priesthood
was taped to the back of the rectangle, a clip art picture, black and white of
the prophet was taped to the back of the roof and clip art of the four standard
works
on the back of the steeple, I called it a spire on the day. Looking at the
children I chose those who were wearing something that caught my eye, I'd go up
to the child and point and ask.. Who do these beautiful glittery shoes belong
to? Some would answer but most just watched silently, and then I'd choose
someone's hair ties, clothes etc., a few examples then then pointing to the
paper chapel I asked what does this look like? They didn't answer. I called it a
church, and then spoke about belonging to Jesus Christs' Church. And that
there are some things that make up Jesus Christ Church. Then told children that
I'm looking for someone sitting up with arms folded, and chose a child to choose
a piece of the chapel, we looked and discussed the pictures. The one of the
blessing, I asked the children what they see and pointed to the other priesthood
pictures already on the wall, and talked about the church has the priesthood.
The picture of the Prophet: talked about Picture of Joseph smith looking up to
Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and out living prophet today, Gordon B
Hinckley and the scriptures. For music time I had made small card size pictures
of President Hinckley and taped them to strips of cardboard for each child and
we sung Follow the prophet as the children held them up in front of themselves
and marched in a circle round the room.

LDS Primary Lesson Helps for Lesson 41
Put
small items symbolizing scripture stories into a bag. As a child pulls an item
from the bag, have him identify or tell the story it reminds him of.
Show
the children a very precious object (perhaps a family heirloom). Discuss with
the children how we handle this object with great care, because of its meaning
to us. Explain what our attitude should be toward the scriptures and how our
behavior will reflect that attitude. Give each child an opportunity to hold the
scriptures. Help the children see that the scriptures are sacred and come from
Heavenly Father. We should not tear, throw, or misuse them, but we should show
reverence for them by studying them.
