Make a spoon jar piano.  Get six one-quart jars and line them up in a row.  Skip the first jar.  Pour a little water in the second jar, a little more in the third and so on.  The last jar should be the fullest of all.  Let the children tap the jars with a spoon to hear that it makes different sounds.
Teach the children about rhythm by clapping sound patterns and ask them to copy you.  Identify the song and sing it as you clap...like, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star".
Bring in different rhythm instruments to have them play one at a time.
Play musical chairs.
To explain  the concept of "loud" and "soft" prepare some pictures of objects such as a stream, a sleeping baby, a bear, a train, etc.  Hold up each picture one by one and ask the children to tell you if the picture represents something loud or soft.  Make sure their "whisper" their soft responses and answer "loudly" for loud responses.

Make shakers - Fill any small container (juice cans, 2 small Dixie cups, paper tubes or even an envelope) with seeds, cheerios or sand and seal it tightly.  Have the children march around in a parade in the room using their shakers.
Rainstick - Make a fun musical instrument.

LDS Primary Lesson Helps for Lesson 39

"Fun to Do" (Adapt the words to be, "Singing a song is fun to do" or "Hearing a song is fun to do" or "Playing a song is fun to do", etc.)
I had a big box of left over Christmas bells in my garage and wondered what to do with them.  So, I tied them onto some elastic and made ankle bells for the children to dance in during some of the songs during Music Time.  All kids like to dance around....it was fun.
If you have a Fisher Price Microphone, you could use it for singing time.  Have the children take turns singing each song.  Make sure every child has a chance to be a "star"! (If you don't have a microphone, ask some of the parents of the Nursery...see if they would let you borrow it for your lesson).

Create piano sandwiches using white and brown bread with crusts removed.  Fill the sandwiches with peanut butter and jelly, cut into thin rectangles, and line up alternating brown and white rectangles to resemble piano keys.
Make cookies shaped like musical notes using a cookie cutter.  Have them frost and decorate their cookie.
