5 little pumpkins story book

Paper Bag Pumpkins - Using a brown paper lunch sack, have each child color and draw a pumpkin face. the paper bag before stuffing.  Draw a pumpkin face.  Each child stuffs a brown lunch sack with newspaper.  Twist the top of the bag to form a stem for the pumpkin.  You can use green pipe cleaner to tie it off too.

Pumpkin Lacing Cards -  Make with orange poster board.  Punch holes around the edge. Have the children lace the yarn around the holes (I put tape around the tip of the yarn to make it easier to thread through the holes).  They can decorate their pumpkins with crayons and or other items like little pom-poms, noodles, etc. [Here is a
Frankenstein Lacing Card]

Draw a pumpkin on paper.  Photocopy one for each child.  Use Q-tips to paint the pumpkin.

Bat Finger Puppets

For our gathering activity today the children finger painted large pumpkins I had copied onto white cardstock. For the finger paint I used butterscotch pudding--it worked out great color-wise and the
children had a fun time painting their pumpkins. We didn't have any clothing problems--the nice thing, though, is the pudding washes out--that's why I'd rather use pudding than real paints. Each child was given a very small spoonful of pudding. I used muffin cups for each child and placed the pudding in the muffin cups--remember very little pudding was places in each cup. We instructed them to use one finger as a paintbrush and they actually did really well--we just have one nursery so we have the young ones and older ones together. I was amazed that out of our group of 15 that Sunday, we only had one child use 2 hands and he's one of our oldest. Amazingly, he didn't get it on his clothes. We had wet wipes available to clean up.
