We just go to the dollar store and they sell crowns. The
birthday child gets to be King/Queen for the day. We have a fairly large
nursery, so we need to keep costs down. This seems to work well. I think you
will always have the problem with all the other children wanting whatever it is,
but it just needs to be
explained that their turn will come and that this is a special day for that
child, and he will also get to have his special day. (Idea by Shelly Foote)
Our nursery leaders make a card for the child and attach a
lollypop to it. Then they hang it by the
door so that child can take it home with them. They don't draw any attention to
it during nursery and the
kids don't seem to notice it. During music time, we sing happy birthday. (Idea
by Danyelle Ferguson)
In
our Nursery a parent will bring in a birthday cake. At snack time we sing
Happy Birthday, and cut the cake. (Idea by Rosie Steele)
Small Dollar Store photo album (the 24 photo, 4x6 kind) filled
with photos of them in nursery, other nursery friends, Jesus, current prophet,
the closest temple, nature, etc.
