One of the things I did when I taught this was to teach a little about the 7 kinds of intelligence (interpersonal, intrapersonal, kinetic, mathematics, language, music, and spatial) You can do a google search to get good definitions of each of these.  I just told about how intelligence isn't a "yes" or a "no" sort of thing, nor is it something to be measured by grades. Like spiritual gifts, each of us comes with stronger abilities in some and lesser in others. The idea of knowledge is to build upon our strengths and work on improving our weaknesses.  I got a lot of feedback on this, including from one leader who said she'd felt dumb her whole life because she had never been good with academic things. But she realized that she had other intellectual gifts and the knowledge she had developed there was just as important as the things measured by a report card. (Idea by Jen Nielsen)

VALUE PROJECT IDEAS:

I had a couple of my Mia Maids volunteer time in my first grade classroom. They would come and tutor first graders with reading for 30 minutes once a week until they met their 10 hours for the Knowledge Project. My students loved having them come and help them.  (Idea by Tara Hammer / ga05192008)
