At Christmastime our thoughts and hearts turn to a little Baby born in Bethlehem. All through history and all over the world, people join in celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Artists have painted wonderful pictures of what that time might have been like. Musicians have composed beautiful music praising His coming. Authors have written interesting stories and books to share their feelings about Christmas. We sing songs about the birth of Jesus. We send cards to each other expressing our joy that He came to earth. We set up nativity scenes with shepherds and Wise Men and Mary and Joseph and Baby Jesus to remind us that Jesus came to this world as a baby and to celebrate this great event.

ACTIVITY: Did you know that Book of Mormon prophets foretold His birth, long before He was born?  Let's see if you can help me find out which ones.

Print these off the following documents for this game.

* This file is a copy of each of the gifts that go around the Christmas tree.  [Presents Page 1] and [Presents Page 2]
* This file is a copy of the prophets that testified of Christ's birth.  Cut all eight out and put each one in each envelope. 
* You will need eight envelopes for this activity.  Tape them to the chalkboard.  Draw a Christmas tree on the chalkboard.  Your setup should look similar to this:

                                     

How to play the game:  Call upon a child to come forward.  The first child selects paper from one of the envelopes.  They read the clue and get to open one gift.  If it matches then you take down the envelope and present.  Have the child write the answer (the prophet's name) on the line you drew earlier. 

ACTIVITY:  Christmas time, especially, is a time to forget ourselves and to serve others.  Give each child a copy of the following pdf document: File Cards.  They can color the cards if they want (or not).  Give each child a small envelope and have them cut out each card and put them in their envelope.  Each day, their is a challenge listed.  Have them work on their challenge and tape the card into their journal and talk about how they did that day. 

SING: Have a very Merry Christmas, pg. 51

SUMMARY:  Testify of Christ's birth and resurrection.  Tell them that prophets today as well as in old testify of Christ; however, those in the Book of Mormon knew of his birth long before he was born.
