To celebrate the Relief Society birthday in
March we did a version of Hollywood Squares
(we called it LDS Squares) My husband built a 12'x12' set with 9-3' wide
openings for each contestant. We named our squares different names. For
example we had Mrs. Gotta Gettit Done, Mrs. Zinga Song, Mrs. Carrie D.
Message, Mrs. Cher D. Gospel, and the list goes on. We even gave each of
our squares different bio's. For example....Mrs. Carrie D. Message:
completes her visiting teaching by the first week of each month, and can
recite from memory the monthly messages for the entire past year. All our
squares brought props and dressed up. They were absolutely hilarious. Our
contestants were Patty Perfect and Peter Priesthood. They too had bio's
that were quite humorous. Our hosts name was Burnt Sparks and I think he
was a real key in getting everyone warmed up and in the laughing mood. All
our questions were Relief Society trivia. One question was who was the 1st General Relief
Society
President? What is the Relief Society Motto? We had the audience help the contestants
agree or disagree. We did 2 rounds and that was just about all we had time
for. We then had our Relief Society president stand and say how grateful we were to the
pioneers who started this wonderful organization and what a sisterhood we
feel with one another and what a great time it is for all of us to join
together once a month to interact, socialize and help one another. She then
ended it on a spiritual thought and the final touch was our Bishop's wife
singing this beautiful song about Sisterhood and then last 2 lines she was
so emotional that she couldn't get a word out and so she whispered the last
bit of the song. Everyone had tears in their eyes.
If you are interested in doing this activity some night, you don't have to
have the set. My friend in California is also the Enrichment Leader and she did the
same
thing and put 3 chairs on the gym floor and then used the stairs that go in
front of the stage and put 3 chairs on that and then up on the stage she put
3 more chairs so everyone was lifted up a different level. Her's was a big hit
too.
The best part of the whole night was seeing everyone sitting around laughing
and enjoying one another's company. Our Bishop was their to play the piano
for his wife when she sang and he called me that night to tell me how much
he enjoyed himself and that it looked like everyone else did too. We had
our biggest turn out that night, we were right at 50 women. It was great.
