Getting chores done at camp
by Lori Webb / ga05232007

The favorite is the "golden plunger" or "clean cabin" award. I spray painted a plunger from the dollar store gold and This year I have also decorated it with jewels. Every morning at flag during the announcements I announce the cleanest cabin from the previous day. It gets passed from cabin to cabin every day. Throughout the day I visit the cabins and do inspections. It is so much fun, it gives me an opportunity to visit with all of the different
wards. And they welcome my visits. Sometimes when they see me coming they
start cleaning up real quick, it is cute.

I also have learned some things since last year. We have 2 bathrooms and kitchen chores all around the same time. Last year I was running between all of those places like a chicken with my head cut off. This year I am having everyone meet Me in one location, I will hand them out there assignments (which I have printed out on cardstock and laminated), I will also give them a dry erase marker so that they can mark off the chores that they have done.  I took the dry erase marker and taped it and wrapped in ribbon to a wand so it looks cute. The girl who is chosen to be in charge (without being bossy) of the check list (and making sure that the chores get done) is dubbed the "caper princess" by me the "caper queen" the are given the wand/marker and the list, and a tiara to wear during capers. Last year the whole "caper princess" thing was very popular, one ward even mentioned in their skit last year. The cabin moms are also usually really good at making sure that all of the chores get done.  Oh, and we would pass out otter pops as the reward after capers.
