Conference Sharing Time
by Jessica Skinner / ga04192007
I found pictures of the 12
apostles and 1st presidency on lds.about.com and will have them enlarged to
5X7 or 8x10 and put them on the board. I'll sing the song with the kids:
Sing the Last Names of the Apostles to the tune of "10 Little Indians"
"Hinckley, Monson, Faust and Packer,
Perry, Nelson, Oaks and Ballard,
Wirthlin, Scott, Hales and Holland,
Eyring, Uchtdorf and Bednar."
I went online and took a quote from each general authority from General
conference this month. After we sing the song several times I'll let the kids
take turns picking a quote and they can read it and match it to the apostle.
That way they can know what the apostle talked about.
Here are the quotes I'll be using:
Elder Ballard
"The miracle of the Holy Bible"
We are true and full believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and in His revealed
word through the Holy Bible.
The Holy Bible is a miracle! It is a miracle that the Bible's 4,000 years of
sacred and secular history were recorded and preserved by the prophets,
apostles, and inspired churchmen.
It is a miracle that we have the Bible's powerful doctrine, principles,
poetry, and stories. But most of all, it is a wonderful miracle that we have
the account of the life, ministry, and words of Jesus, which was protected
through the Dark Ages and through the conflicts of countless generations so
that we may have it today.
Elder Bednar - Saturday morning
"Ye must be born again"
Through faith in Christ, we can be spiritually prepared and cleansed from sin,
immersed in and saturated with His gospel, and purified and sealed by the Holy
Spirit of Promise.
Elder Eyring - Sunday afternoon
"This Day"
All of us will need His help to avoid the tragedy of procrastinating what we
must do here and now to have eternal life.
President Faust - Priesthood session
"Message to my grandsons"
I hope each one of you becomes a man of God. You will become a man of God
through righteous works.
Go forward in faith and righteousness, following the leadership of our
prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley. If you do, the Lord will strengthen and
magnify you so that you will accomplish great things.
Elder Hales - Priesthood session
"To the Aaronic priesthood: preparing for the decade of decision"
How you bear [the] priesthood now will prepare you to make the most important
decisions in the future. (The Aaronic Priesthood: deacons, teachers, and
priests)
The Aaronic Priesthood is the preparatory priesthood, given for this
preparatory time in your life. How you bear that priesthood now will prepare
you to make the most important decisions in the future.
President Hinckley - Sunday morning
"The things of which I know"
I confess that I do not know everything, but of some things I am certain. Of
the things of which I know, I speak to you this morning.
-Joseph smith, the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the temple
Elder Holland - Saturday morning
"The Tongue of Angels"
Our words, like our deeds, should be filled with faith and hope and charity.
It is with this realization of the power and sanctity of words that I wish to
caution us, if caution is needed, regarding how we speak to each other and how
we speak of ourselves.
President Monson - Saturday morning
"I know that my redeemer lives"
Through faith in Christ, we can be spiritually prepared and cleansed from sin,
immersed in and saturated with His gospel, and purified and sealed by the Holy
Spirit of Promise.
Elder Nelson - Sunday afternoon
"Repentance and conversion"
A repentant soul is a converted soul, and a converted soul is a repentant
soul.
"There is hope. Hope is linked to repentance. You can change. You can 'come
unto Christ, and be perfected in him.'
Elder Oaks - Sunday morning
"Divorce"
A good marriage does not require a perfect man or a perfect woman. It only
requires a man and a woman committed to strive together toward perfection.
Elder Packer - Saturday afternoon
"The spirit of the tabernacle"
Great events which shaped the destiny of the Church have occurred in this
Tabernacle at Temple Square
1-Every President of the Church, except Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, has
been sustained in a solemn assembly in this Tabernacle
2-Here in 1880 the Pearl of Great Price was accepted as one of the standard
works of the Church
3- Here in 1979, after years of preparation, the LDS version of the King James
Bible was introduced to the Church
Elder Perry - Sunday afternoon
"The message of the Restoration"
We declare to the world that the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ has
been restored to the earth.
He talked about the First Vision, The Book of Mormon, The Priesthood, and The
Church of Jesus Christ
Elder Scott - Saturday morning
"Using the supernal power of prayer"
Prayer is a supernal gift of our Father in Heaven to every soul.
It doesn't matter who we are, what we've done, where we live, if we are rich
or poor, boy or girl, he'll hear every one of our prayers
Elder Uchtdorf - Sunday afternoon
"Point of Safe Return"
The gift of the Atonement of Jesus Christ provides us at all times and at all
places with the blessings of repentance and forgiveness.
Satan wants us to think that when we have sinned we have gone past a "point of
no return"-that it is too late to change our course.
Elder Wirthlin - Priesthood session
"Life's Lessons learned"
I urge you to examine your life. Determine where you are and what you need to
do to be the kind of person you want to be.
Many of the most important and life-changing moments of my life occurred when
I was a young man
My dear brethren, may we set righteous goals and work to achieve them, do what
is right, and reach out in love to those around us.
