Last year I undertook the project of
creating a family motto. I printed it out on paper and we recited it each
morning before the kids would leave, along with reading the Book of Mormon and
having family prayer. It is the first thing we do every morning, like a
mini-devotional. It doesn't take that long. My three year old can
repeat most of our motto by heart. I have five children and I want them to
know what truths dad and I value and cherish. I figured these four areas
were the most important. Therefore, if Emalee does something that she
shouldn't, I can say, "Now is that being trustworthy?" or whatever.
Soon thereafter, I decided to paint it on my wall and decided to share it with
all of you. This is our family motto: (See pictures of the wall I
painted it on - at bottom of page)
OUR MOTTO:
|
WE WILL BE TRUE TO GOD
…who is our Father. He loves us and we love Him.
We will visit with Him often and kneel before Him
as a family each morning and night.
We will honor Him by obeying all of His commandments
and by following His prophets.
All that we posses is a gift from Him; therefore, we most
willingly return an offering of ten percent.
We will make a personal study of His words each day, alone and as a family and go to His house
often. In so doing we will heighten our knowledge, and
understanding,
and find answers to all of our concerns.
WE WILL BE TRUE TO OURSELVES
We have a companionship with the Holy Ghost. We will act upon His influence and follow those
inner feelings no
matter what others may think.
Through healthy habits, we will care for our physical
bodies, for therein dwells our spirit.
We will consecrate ourselves to the building up of the
kingdom of God.
WE WILL BE TRUE TO OUR FAMILY
Our most sacred friendships are within the walls of our own
home. Spending time together shall be a priority and we will
continually build each other up with love and support.
We will fulfill all promises to our family members, even
those who have gone before us, and those who
have yet to come.
We are bound together as a family; therefore, we will live our
lives in such a way as to be together forever.
WE WILL BE TRUE TO OUR FRIENDS
We will be friends to all, and a light to those around us.
We will be trustworthy in every deed and action. We will never
let anyone down by being a bad example.
We have been preserved for the last days.
We will help others look to Christ.
PICTURES OF WALL:

Here is a picture of the whole wall. Up at the top I have a
quote on families (see next picture) with mine and my husbands hand print.
Each of our children's pictures are next and their hand prints are also on the
wall with their names by them. There are four columns on the wall, that is
where I painted our motto (see above). I built a tree on the side of the
house there, kind of fun.

This is the quote painted at the top of the
home in the picture above.
