Enos Family Home Evening
Riddle: Tell the following
riddle, and ask the family to raise their hands when they know the answer.
I am not a person, place, or object.
I can be so quiet that no one else can hear
I can be loud enough that everyone in the room can hear.
I can be used when you are alone or in a group.
I am used any time, any place, under any circumstance.
I am used for gratitude, guidance, comfort, forgiveness,
protection, help, good health, or for any other blessing you need for
yourself or for someone else.
You use me to talk with Heavenly Father.
What am I?
Answer = Prayer
Object Lesson - I am
going to adapt the following object lesson...Heavenly
Father knows exactly who we are when we pray.
Lesson
- I am going to have my husband dress up like "Enos" and come join us in the
front room with his bow and arrow (pretending to be out hunting for wild
beasts). My husband is a goof ball and he'll ham it up! I'll have him
teach us the story of Enos...how
he has been thinking about the words of his father Jacob and how he is concerned
for the welfare of his soul, and feels the need to repent. We'll all go
into the "forest" (we'll go on a hike to the family room) together and then I'll
have him ask the children if they could help show him how to pray. It will
also be a great opportunity to review the proper order of prayer.
Quiz - I'm going to give my kids a
quiz on Enos.
I've put two level of questions together (easy and hard).
Video -
Heavenly Father answers prayers (2:42 min)
Game - Just like
Enos wrestled with the Lord...I'm going to let the kids wrestle with dad.
They'll love it.
Refreshment: Prayer Pretzels -
The simple shape of the pretzel, arms folded
in prayer, reminds us to pray each day. I will melt some chocolate and let
them dip pretzels in chocolate.
