Joseph Smith Easter Egg Hunt
by Evelyn Watts / ga03182007

One year I did a Joseph Smith Easter "egg" hunt.  Each person had a piece of paper with the following text with spaces in it for each word where it is marked *_____. For each egg they found, I gave them one word and they had to find where it went in the text. Obviously each word began with "egg"!

I gave them the text with whole words missing, i.e. Let me _______ to you the _______ _______ of one Joseph Smith. Then they went in search of eggs [which were hardboiled]. They exchanged their eggs for words - explain, exceptional and exertions, but I did not give them the words in the correct order. They had to figure out which word went in which space.

Here it is:

Let me *plain to you the *ceptional *ertions of one Joseph Smith. Upon *amining the evidence I am sure that you will *claim that I have not *aggerated the expanse of his *tensive *ploits and *traordinary *periences.  During Joseph's First Vision, he *citedly *pressed his question to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in a vocal *change - "Which church is true?". The *panded knowledge they gave him ignited a life of *cellent *ample and unshaken testimony. Following his vision, Joseph could *plain Heavenly Father's and Jesus Christ's *istence so *pertly because he had seen *actly what they looked like. Joseph Smith needed no *ing on to locate and *cavate the Hill Cumorah. It was *pedient that the Book of Mormon, translated from *cerpts of the plates he found there, was published for all the world. The plates were *plicit in the danger of *cesses, and the path to *altation could be found on *amination. Many knew Joseph had the plates but he did not *hibit them generally, only to those *emplifying and *ercising true faith and who would *ult over the *periences written within, not on the *terior gold. He *pounded on the truths which served to *asperate those who sought to *pose him. Never did he *plode nor *cuse himself even under the *cruciating *cesses that the mob used as they *ceeded the bounds of law and order. Courts *onerated him again and again, finding him *culpate. Then the illegal *ecutors came and Joseph and Hyrum Smith *ited this life.  The mob was *hausted for a while, but soon they returned. The saints found it *pedient to *clude themselves from their unfriendly neighbours who had sworn to *terminate, *tinguish and *tirpate them once and for all. The saints worked *clusively on the temple so they could be endowed before they were *pelled from the county. So began their *odus - an *pedition to *plore for the land where none would come to make afraid.
