Golden Egg Hunt

Prepare ahead of time a large number of Easter eggs in at least 5 colors (pink, blue, green, yellow, orange).   Prepare some golden eggs (I do 1 for every dozen regular eggs or sometimes even 2 per dozen).  Hide all of the eggs.  You will need at least 8-10 eggs per child.

Explain to the kids that this is an Easter Egg hunt for points The winner is the one with the most points.

Each color egg is worth a different number of points (only the leader knows the point value before the hunt)

After you have gathered your eggs you can trade eggs with anyone each other, according to what eggs you think have the most value.

After the game is over the the color values will be announced and the children can tally up their scores (may need adult help).

At the end of the game show a paper chart with the following points (or adapt to your situation I made changes and took out all one color)

Blue egg = 1 point

Green egg = 5 points

Yellow egg = 10 points

Pink egg = 20 points

Orange egg = 50 points

Golden egg = minus 100 points

Five of a kind = 100 points

all one color = 1,000 points

One of each color = 500 points

Most eggs = 100 points

Least eggs = 1,000 points

After you have determined the winner, sit down in a circle and discuss some of the following questions or related ideas.

Is it better to know the value of something before you acquire it or experience it? Why?

How do we learn the true value of things in life?

What are some of the things the world considers to be of value?

What do you consider to be the most important things in life?

In what ways do you think the following statement is true?  "Life is like a jewelry store in which robbers had entered, but rather than taking anything, they simply switched all the price tags.  Things that had great value were cheapened, and things that were of no value appeared to be extremely valuable"

Hold up a gold egg and open it up and say that this egg is empty, just like the things of the world.  I parallel this lesson to choices in friends, entertainment etc...whatever seemed to be needed at the time.
