I thought I could depend on you
by N. Eldon Tanner

My father was bishop.  I remember so well that one day he left my brother and me to do some work.  We thought he would be gone for some time doing his Church work, but he returned sooner than expected.  (You know, that happens once in a while!)  He found us riding calves.  He called us over.  I will never forget how he looked at me and said, "My boy, I thought I could depend on you."  That was a great lesson, a severe punishment to me.  I made up my mind then that he would never have any reason to say that again to me as long as he lived, nor would anybody else, not even the Lord."

-My experience and Observation, May 17, 1966, p. 7-8.
