Temples and Sealing Power after
Death
by Kim
A couple of years ago I did a couple of Sharing Times
about being sealed that seemed to click with some of the younger children. For
one of them, I hung a sheet from the ceiling (the veil), attached a skein of
yarn to the back of a picture of a temple, and displayed the picture in the part
of the room that represented earth. On the other side of the sheet, I displayed
a picture of Christ. Then we all stood by the veil, and I let the children peek
into heaven. We talked about how we had to die in order to live with Jesus
again. The only problem was that death would separate our "family." Then I
brought forward the picture of the temple and talked about how the Lord had
given us the tools to keep us together even after we die--the sealing power.
We took the yarn from the back and tied some around each person's right wrist.
We then were able to go, one by one, to the other side of the veil, and we
stayed connected.
As a possible follow up for another time, we also did one about vicarious work
for the dead. Once again, I hung a sheet from the ceiling, and I put a picture
of the temple across the room. I cut out some little tokens that represented the
temple blessings, and then I divided the children into two groups--the larger
group were the dead, and the smaller group were the living. Each of the children
in the living group were able to go get their own tokens at the temple, but the
dead group couldn't cross the line to get their own. They had to rely on the
smaller group to go get them tokens, one by one. They were allowed to call to
the living group, but they couldn't do anything about getting their tokens if
the living group decided to go do other things.
