I used Crayola Model Magic (soft, squishy, modeling material) for making handprints for the children's Christmas presents for mom and dad.  It's nontoxic and it isn't messy or sticky.  Roll it out flat and round for a handprint.  Stamp the child's hand in washable ink and then on to the mold.  It dries in a day, but it isn't brittle and won't break.  We had a blast.  One package of Model Magic makes three molds, for one package that's 3.99. But you can buy it in bulk and it's cheaper and makes 4 molds per package.  The kids LOVED it and it makes a great gift for parents.  I sprayed the molds with a clear paint so the ink won't wash off later, that's optional though.  I then wrapped it in colored tissue paper.  (Idea by Sharla Arnold / ga07222007)

We gave a flannel pillowcase rolled up with a ribbon and bell attached with a cute tag that read" When on this pillow if you can't sleep, talk to the Shepherd, don't count sheep!" On the back of the tag was the following: In olden times, a bell was placed around the neck of sheep so that the shepherd could hear his sheep and know where to find them. Our Savior, even Jesus, The Christ, is that Shepherd. Merry Christmas, We made the pillowcases from full size sheet sets, we could get 12 out of a set (Target 50% off) They are a winter scene with snowflakes. We thought a winter theme was better then Christmas print, because they could use them after the holidays. (Idea by Teri)

Christmas Stockings Filled With Love - Serving others by preparing and giving Christmas stockings filled with small toys and other trinkets can bring joy to some who may otherwise not receive any Christmas gifts at all.  Collecting items is a year-round activity that involves family members and others who want to share the Christmas spirit with kind acts of service.  Customizing the contents make the stockings even more special.

Family Bread Day - (by Rebecca Johns) It sometimes works better to gather mothers and children in the afternoon for this project, then invite Dads to come for the dinner.  This is good for families with children who need to be home early to get to bed.  Our family does this when we make bread as the project.   We have had Bread Day for twenty-five years.  Mothers and children come in the afternoon with a rolling pin and two cookie sheets or 9”x 13” pans.  My sister has the bread dough prepared and ready to roll out.  You may also use frozen bread dough and have it thawed and ready to roll out.  The children of each family roll the dough out into a rectangle, spread it with butter, sprinkle it with cinnamon sugar, roll it into a log, and cut it into rolls with a thread.  The rolls can be arranged in a wreath shape, a Christmas Tree shape, or in a 9”x 13” pan.  Let rise, then back. A second loaf is made by each family where the dough is rolled into ropes and braided.  It could also be molded into a round teddy bear loaf or a Santa face with curls for the beard.  While the bread rises, the children play or watch a Christmas video.  The mothers visit and set out the dinner.   We usually have chili or soup that can be made the day before and reheated, a green salad, and the hot bread fresh from the oven.  We eat the plain bread and take the cinnamon rolls home to freeze and heat on Christmas morning.
