Christmas
Sharing Time
by Alana Lee / ga12072007
Today we’re going to
talk about when Jesus was born. And since we all should know the story pretty
well, I’m going to ask you some questions about what happened. But we’re going
to use a little game. We need to recreate the story with this Nativity set. This
is how it works. I have all the Nativity pieces with questions attached to them.
I will call on the reverent children and they get to come up, choose a Nativity
piece, answer the question, and put the manger scene together piece by piece.
The trick is to get all 12 pieces in place before the end of Sharing Time. Of
course, there may be questions that you don’t know the answer to. How can we
find the answers to those questions? (Search the scriptures!) Each question
has the scripture reference where you can find the answer. Your teacher can help
you.
Before we play our game, let’s sing a song to help us see the story in our
minds.

Questions attached to the Nativity Pieces - (Joseph, Mary, Jesus, Angel,
Shepherd, 4 animals, 3 Wisemen)
1. How did Mary find out she was going to have baby Jesus? (Luke 1:26-27)
The angel Gabriel visited her and told her of the news.
2. When did Joseph and Mary get married? (Matt 1:24)
Soon after the angel visited him.
3. Why did Joseph and Mary go to Bethlehem? (Luke 2:3-4)
To be counted and taxed.
4. Why did Mary have Jesus in a stable? (Luke 2:7)
Because there was no room in the inns.
5. Who did an angel visit to announce the birth of the Savior? (Luke
2:8-9) The shepherds.
6. How long did the Shepherds wait before they went to see baby Jesus?
(Luke 2:15-16) They didn’t wait--they went with haste.
7. Who followed the new star to find young Jesus? (Matt 2:1-2)
The wisemen.
8. What did King Herod tell the wisemen to do once they found Jesus?
(Matt 2:8) Come back and tell Herod where baby Jesus is so
he can worship him, too. Which was a lie; he wanted to harm Jesus.
9. What gifts did the wisemen bring young Jesus? (Matt 2:11)
Gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
10. How long did it take the wisemen to find young Jesus once the star
appeared? (Matt 2:16) About two years.
11. Why did Joseph, Mary, and young Jesus flee to Egypt after the wisemen
came? (Matt 2:13-15) Because Joseph was warned in a dream
that King Herod sought the life of Jesus, and to fulfill prophecy that the Son
of God shall be called out of Egypt.
12. What does Bethlehem mean? (Bible Dictionary)
House of Bread
Great job! What a special night that must have been when baby Jesus was born.
(Jr Primary: Let’s sing “Away in a Manger” and pretend we’re holding the baby
Jesus in our arms.)
(Sr Primary: Now let’s sing a song about this picture.)
