Christmas Chain Ideas and Poems

Here are various ideas for Countdown Chains
and several poems to use in creating your own.

Christmas Star Countdown Chain

Cut out and paste together 25 links for a paper chain. The links are numbered 1-25 and on each link is a different theme and scripture reference (see below). Hang the chain with 25th link at the top and remove one link each day during December leading up to Christmas, using the scripture for family devotions and the theme as a focus for prayer. It's a handy way to count off the days until Christmas and learn more about the real meaning of the holiday.

Kath's Countdown Calendar

POEM 1:

Each night, after

your story’s been read,

Take off one ring

and hop into bed.

When only this star

is left to shine...

Then you will know

It’s Christmas time!!

POEM 2: Little Star Poem- (with star attached to the last day)

Little Star, shining bright
How many days 'til Christmas night?
Jesus' birthday will soon be here,
Thank you, God, for your Son so dear.

POEM 3: Christmas Bell Countdown - (with bell attached to the last day)

 December the first 'til Christmas
Is the longest time of the year,
It seems as though old Santa
Never will appear.
How many days 'til Christmas?
It's mighty hard to count,
So this little chain of paper
Will show you the exact amount.
Remove one link each day
As the sandman casts his spell,
And Christmas will be here
By the time you reach the bell.

POEM 4

December 1st 'till Christmas
Is the longest time of year.
Seems as though old Santa
Never will appear.
How many day 'till Christmas?
It's awfully hard to count.
But our class Christmas counter,
Will tell the exact amount.

Take off one link every day,
If you're behaving well,
And Christmas Day will be here
By the time you reach the bell.
