Ancient prophets foretold the
coming of the Savior to the earth

From the time of Adam, righteous men looked forward to the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The prophets taught that Jesus Christ would come to save all of Heavenly Father’s children from death. They also taught that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, men could be forgiven of their sins and return to Heavenly Father. Many of the prophets knew of the birth of the Savior, Jesus Christ, long before it happened.

Set up post it notes on a wall or chalkboard similar to this but leave the post it notes blank....

Then, call on a child to come forward.  Have the child ask their class which letter they want to choose.  If the letter isn't present anywhere throughout the puzzle, write that letter on a post-it-note and put it on the bottom of the board (to represent it has already been chosen).  If the letter is present somewhere in the puzzle, point to the post-it-notes that contain that letter.  Write the letter in if they are small and if they are old enough,  have them write the letter on the correct notes.  If they write it on the wrong note, peel it off and replace it or switch notes.  Ask the class if they are able to determine one of the answers.  Once a correct answer is given, have someone from that class come forward to read the scripture reference listed by his name.

Isaiah - Isaiah 9:6
Alma 7:7-13
Lehi - 1 Nephi 10:4-8
Samuel - Helaman 14:2-6
King Benjamin - Mosiah 3:5-8
Abinadi - Mosiah 16:7-8

Summary - Using the scriptures listed, teach the prophecies of Jesus Christ’s birth and how they were fulfilled.  After all the scriptures are read, ask the children, "What event are these prophets describing?"  Share your testimony with the children that you know Jesus Christ DID fulfill these prophecies.  Share your feelings about the divinity of Christ’s birth and your gratitude for this wonderful gift that Heavenly Father has given to each of us.

Other Optional Activities:

- Help the children understand and memorize the ninth article of faith. During the discussion point out that we are living in a time when prophecies and revelations are being fulfilled, and invite the children to name some of these prophecies. Share your feelings about being part of a church with continuing revelation and being a witness to the fulfillment of prophecies in your own lifetime.
