Sharing Time on Choices

Everyday we have choices to make and they each have a consequence or result. 

-    Choose not to sleep == tired
-    Choose not to eat  == hungry
-    Choose to wear sun block when it is hot outside == no sunburn and no pain

Making a choice is like picking up a stick. (have child come up and demonstrate this) When you pick up one end of a stick the other end always comes with it.  When you make a choice, a consequence always comes with it.

Some consequences come quickly after you make a choice, and sometimes you don't see a consequence until a long time later, but there will ALWAYS be a consequence.

The consequence of right choices is a blessing from Heavenly Father. You have already made good choices in the past and received blessing, like when you lived in heaven you made a choice to follow Heavenly Father's plan.  The consequence was to get a body and come to earth. Now that you are on earth Heavenly Father wants you to make even more good choices so you can get more blessings and be happy.

Satan doesn't want you to be happy and so he tries to get you to make wrong choices. There is a song about making choices and what happens when you make a good choice and what happens when you make a bad choice.

Sing: Wise Man and Foolish Man (Pg 281)

Some people like to "fish for blessings" meaning they look to get blessings by doing certain things. So why don't we play a game and I want you to come up and fish for an item on the floor. Then I want you to tell us about the item and what your choices are with that item i.e. bed time: go to bed early, get enough sleep and be happy, or not sleep, be grumpy and cranky).  Then we will sing some songs about that item and see if it tells us what blessings we can get if we make good choices. If not we can look in the scriptures and find out how Heavenly Father will bless us!

(Play fish game.  As they pick the following ones, sing these songs.)

Commandments == Keep the commandments (Pg 146) (Mosiah 2:41)

Study the scriptures == Search Ponder and Pray (Pg 109) (John 5:39)

Love one another == Love one another ( Pg 136) (John 13:34-35)

Honor Father and Mother == I'm so glad when Daddy comes home (Pg 210) (Ex. 20:12)-After we sing this song we will go over and make the Father's Day crafts.

Remember Jesus Christ == Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam (Pg 60) (3 Ne 18:7)

Pray == A Child's Prayer (Pg 12) (Alma 37:37)

Obedient == Follow the Prophet ( Noah verse)  (Pg 110)  (Mosiah 5:8-9)
