Devotional Idea
From
a seminary teacher: My favorite
devotional was given by two freshmen boys four years ago. One walked in with a
backpack that was loaded with a huge phonebook with a sheet of paper taped over
the cover that read "I'm Ugly", a can of V-8juice covered with paper that read
"I'm Stupid", a huge rubber mallet with a sign "My Family is Dysfunctional". His
partner helped him lift his back and try to walk. The partner would take out one
of the items from the backpack, read it to the class and put it back in the
pack. They asked the class how they would like to walk around all day at school
carrying this heavy load. The boy then, with help, took off the pack and set it
in front of the class. "You can carry a different load to school today," he said
as he opened the backpack on the other boy and pulled out a piece of paper that
read "I am a Child of God". He talked about how that made him feel. He reached
in a pulled out another paper which read, "I love my family" and talked about
eternal families and how it was work but how he loved them. The last paper he
pulled out read "With the Lord I can do anything". The class participated in the
discussions. Two wonderful freshmen taught me a lot that day.
