An idea on how to stop name calling

We were having a problem with Name calling, and decided to tackle it in Family Home Evening (my boys are 3 and 4 1/2). It went well, so I thought I would share. We started by having Tyler (3) name the people in our family. Then we asked Ryan what other names we use  and with a little help to get started, he listed off several nicknames, like Buddy, Princess, Sweetheart, etc. Then I asked if there are other names we call people that are mean and make them feel bad. And as we listed those, I wrote them on squares of toilet paper-- we added general things like sassy words and left a couple blank for any other mean names we didn't think of. Then we ceremoniously flushed them down the toilet. We told them if they use the "potty names" they will have their mouth washed out with soap and then they can spit them down the toilet with the others. The change has been amazing. Hopefully this will help someone else.
