Scripture Safari
I set up "outposts" around the room, and a "village" in one
corner. At each outpost there was a sign telling the children what they
needed to do to earn points and how many points they needed to continue
the safari. The points were earned by reading scriptures that I carefully
chose for what they said about the subject of repentance and atonement.
The children were instructed to work together and help each other and they
earned points as a whole group. Our bishopric advisor, wearing a safari
hat and carrying binoculars, was their guide. They were instructed to do
everything they could on their own and turn to their guide when they
needed help. Their goal was to get to the village.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: It was really a lot of fun to do
our "safari." The chorister and I both wore "animal print" dresses that
day and our front table that usually has a vase of flowers on it was the
home to a family of stuffed orangutans. To keep it within the limited
time we have for sharing time, I just had one scripture at each outpost
(for senior I had two at a couple of them). This would be a fun
quarterly activity with more scriptures and a song or two at each
outpost as well.
