Second Article of Faith Activity

After our opening prayer we read some scriptures from
Genesis about the creation/fall, etc. (Genesis 2:7-9 & 16-17; 3:1-6, 17-18,
23-24). As we read we talked about each passage and the meaning and important
things ("serpent", "tree of knowledge of good & evil", etc.) Then I used the
Deseret Book lesson.
Then I passed out a
crossword puzzle. As they were filling that out (took them
about 10 minutes) I drew the puzzle on the chalkboard. And after they filled
theirs out we took turns filling out the spaces on the board. Then I read a
quote by
Elder F. Burton Howard from the May 1991 Ensign "We believe that
men will be punished for their own sins and not for Adam's transgression. This
not only means that we will not be punished for what Adam did in the garden, but
also that we cannot excuse our own behavior by pointing a finger at Adam or
anyone else. The real danger in failing to accept responsibility for our own
actions is that unless we do, we many never even enter on the strait and narrow
path." Then we talked about consequences and how we can't blame anyone for our
good or bad actions, we choose to do what we do and there are consequences.
Then we had about 10 minutes so I had them look up LOVE in the topical guide
(because we met last night & it was Valentine's day) and we looked at how many
scriptures there were about love. Then I read my favorite scripture about Love,
John 3:16. I told them that it's fun to think of Valentine's day and the parties
and boys and candy but we should try to remember that Jesus and Heavenly Father
love us more that we can imagine.
