The Stake Primary
Presidency wanted to have a special day just for the "girls" (much
like a day camp for scouts). Our Stake Presidency agreed and allowed
us to host a Stake Achievement Day Activity. We just held our 2nd one,
and both have been a huge success! The girls LOVE having the attention
and opportunity to work on goals with girls from across the stake. For
the last one, we used the theme - "Dream Your Best You". We worked
into our plans for the day at least one area of achievement for every
activity (unfortunately we ran out of time) We used the Dream Catcher
(told the origin, explained the legend, likened it unto repentance,
goal setting, etc.) we made a dream catcher. Then had a Native
American sister talk about the different customs of her tribe. We
talked about "Dreaming" what you can become/your plan for
life/Heavenly Father's plan. We used newsprint and had the girls trace
each other, then "decorate" themselves - you'd be amazed how much they
actually look like their "paper dolls". The girls had a ball jumping
rope - especially when the leaders joined in! We recruited the help of
several Young Women, and they talked about personal cleanliness
(bathing, hair care, etc.) and did manicures for the girls. We
explained how we are each different and alike. They worked in groups
to make a contribution to the coup stick and it was used at the
closing (to show unity). We all sat in a circle and talked (tied all
the activities together with a gospel theme) and allowed each girl to
express her feelings about herself, the day or her goals. From remarks
on the following Sunday - the day was a big hit with the girls and
their leaders!
