Shining Stars
Idea from Shana Windham

I decided on a theme of Shining Stars and got my inspiration for this theme from a primary song, Every Star is Different, page 142. The girls will actually be singing the song that night for their parents. I wanted the girls to realize that they are each a shining star and each different but all needed. And that night they will get to show that they are different. I am going to take this time to educate the parents about the program and how they should/could be involved. Of course the main part of the time will be for each girl to get up and share a goal they have completed. Whether it is telling about a Family Home Evening they gave or performing a musical piece, or making refreshments for the evening. I have one girl that put together a power point presentation about the whole Faith in God program that she is going to share. I was pretty impressed and excited about how she came up with the idea herself and did it. I have also asked the bishops (two wards are combined for the youth programs here due to a recent ward split) to share their testimony about the program. The stake primary presidency said some of them would attend. Decorations will be stars of course.  That night I will also pass out the charms the girls have earned.  This is a program that our Stake Primary presidency has just started this year. They have organized and purchased the charms for this program. Basically each girl can earn a charm for every goal that she does. She will be given a large special silver safety pin that is made to be able to hold the charms on. (there are little loops that the charms can be attached) Each pin will have a number representing which year the girl is in. (1-4) The 4th year is a gold color pin and charms. Every single charm is different between years and categories of goals. (2 different charms for serving others in each year, etc.) So a girl can earn 6 charms per year. In her 4th year she can earn some extra charms for the preparing for Young Women goals. They are really cute and I think it is nice that the stake is doing this. The program started this year and the girls can only earn charms for this year on. (it isn't retroactive for the charms.)  I know people may have different opinions about this but I am just supporting my stake and I think it is nice for the girls to have something like this, since the boys have the scout program to earn patches and knots. I don't know where the stake gets the charms, they just provide me what I need.
