30 days of smiles for our Bishop
by Terri Lynn Bittner / ga01282007

As a way of helping our kids learn to support and love their new bishop, we're combining our recognition night with a "service" project. The families are being asked to bring things to give the bishop that fit into manila envelopes. We'll also have things they can make there. We're hoping to fill 30 envelopes, one for each day, with the various things the families provide. Ward members who don't have kids in the program can contribute too. Suggested items include: drawings, CD's of the families singing together, written testimonies, jokes and riddles, stories and poems, and letters.

At the meeting, after we explain the program to the parents (we have many new converts), we're going to let the families work on decorating the envelopes, making valentines for the packets, and adding to them. If more than one parent is there for a child, the second parent will help assemble.

The bishopric is charged with keeping him busy and out of our meeting, since this is a surprise, and then getting him to show up the last fifteen minutes to receive it. Our meeting happens to be on Valentine's Day!
