Preparing for Young Women
Activity Day Idea

I just did an activity for Activity Day that falls under the preparing for "Young Women" section in the "Faith in God" book where it says, “After studying the thirteenth article of faith, make a list of things that are uplifting and virtuous. Discuss with a parent or leader how you can seek after these things.” It was a hit so I thought I would share.

We always have an opening and closing song for Activity Days D from the Primary's "Children's Song Book", so our opening song was #132 - The Thirteenth Article of Faith  and closing song was #149 - I Believe in Being Honest .

Before hand I put the 13th Article of Faith on Excel and cut it out into strips and taped it to the board. We stand as one of the girls leads us in reciting an Article of Faith at the all our Activity Day after our prayer. We used the 13th, as it was hung up already.

For our activity I started out with talking to the girls about what it meant to be “uplifted” and “virtuous.”  I asked them for ideas of things that were uplifting and virtuous. As they answered I wrote their responses on the board.

Then we played a game of hot potato using my daughter’s small sized Nurf football. After giving the girls instructions on how to play the game, I started by saying the words on the first strip of paper and tossed the ball to one of the girls. She read the words from the next strip of paper and tossed the ball to another girl and so on until we completed the article. I found that asking the girls to toss the ball underhand and counting down from 5 was best to keep the game moving. We didn’t have too much time so we were only able to go through the article once.

After we finished that I read them a story from Beth Stephenson, "Charades!” from the January 1988 Friend, pg 8. It was very helpful for the girls to memorize that particular part of the article and kept them very entertained. (It also has a wonderful idea for the girls to do a FHE.)

Then I had the girls do the puzzle, “Cross Connections: The Thirteenth Article of Faith.”  by Jil S. Hunt, from the Friend, Jan. 1988, pg 11.  This one wasn’t as big as a hit as I had hoped but I think the entire activity was very well rounded for all variety of girls.
