Chinese New Year Activity Idea
by Kathleen Revoir
Got oil? - Our first time together this
year will be next week. We
are having a lesson on being spiritually prepared when the Savior comes…
(The basic requirements for the Faith in God program). I will give a
simple lesson/message on the parable of the 10 virgins (and perhaps send
home stuff they could use to give a FHE). Then we will be making oil
lamp piñata’s. For the next several months we will work on filling our lamps
with “oil” (pennies….) the kids will keep track of their daily prayers ,
scripture reading, Family Home Evening, Sunday Meeting attendance, etc.…. And when we meet
we will have a time in our opening, to deposit pennies for each drop of
spiritual oil…. When it gets full we will surprise the girls (because we
don’t know when the bridegroom is coming) and reap the eternal rewards...
(I.e. spend all those pennies on a pizza party) during the party each of us
will have the opportunity to share how this diligence has help in our daily
lives. In the 2nd week in Jan… we will finish up with our piñata, and
introduce our plan for articles of faith for the year. The piñata's
will be made out of newspapers and the next week we will paint them.

New
Years Bell - This activity is meant for a school teacher but
would still be fun to do with the girls as part of an activity.
Personal time capsules - Have each girl bring a shoebox to decorate.
Once that is completed, have them write down goals, likes and dislikes and
fun facts about themselves. Place items in the box and tape shut.
Have everyone decide when to open the box and label on the outside.
Have them put it in a safe place.
