Placemats
Idea by Penny Maranville

Have them make a placemat that has the items appropriately placed on one side (i.e., plate in middle, spoon and knife on right, etc.). The other side could be a collage or some other pretty/fun picture. We did this and had the kids draw an appropriate place setting on one side and a collage on the other. I took the mats and had them laminated but could have just used contact paper.  After we had a brief lesson on proper serving and table manners, we fed the missionaries dinner. The kids (we have the boys and girls together) really loved serving the missionaries (we ate spaghetti, salad, bread, drink) and then sitting down and eating with them.

FYI: A fun way for them to remember that the fork goes on the left is that LEFT has four letters just like FORK. RIGHT has five letters just like KNIFE & SPOON.
