Meal Planning and Budgeting
Idea by Lorena Brown

A great and fun activity for the girls to do with money - just as another thought - is to have each of them bring .50 cents to an activity, then go to the grocery store to purchase a food item for that activity's treat. Now, .50 cents doesn't go far, but when people bring in multiple .50 cents to the activity, the nicer the treat. (We did this once as a Young Women group - but they brought a dollar each.) The food was to be a dinner. We wouldn't let the Young Women combine their money to buy anything, but the things they bought were pretty impressive: eggs (1 dozen eggs was $1 and so we had scrambled eggs), top ramen, apples (several of them bought those), a strawberry yogurt for dipping apples into, string cheese and I think crackers. Not bad for a meal!  No veggies, but hey! they had fun trying to figure out what does a dollar buy.
