Family
Proclamation Activity
Idea by Cyndy Young
We
took turns reading the Proclamation, stopping after each paragraph for
questions, and explanations. We made turtles with square pretzels, Rolos
and pecans (yum), then they decorated frames w/ foam shapes. I shrunk the
Proclamation to 5x7 size to fit the frame. They were very cute. The girls
really seemed to enjoy it, and we really got to talk a lot about the
Proclamation since the group was so small. While they worked on their
craft we discussed what they can do to strengthen their family now, and
what they can do to prepare for their future family.
Additional Ideas from Cydny: I thought we'd take
turns reading it through, then have a kind of "Pictionary" type game w/
some colorful kid-clay. They could choose a way to strengthen their
family, and make it in the clay, and we could try to guess. Maybe they can
decorate the copy of the proclamation I will give them, with stickers or
something. By the way, 8-1/2"x11" copies of the Proclamation are free from
Distribution Center.
Ideas from Trina: Our primary had an activity
once where the kids decorated frames (made from craft foam) for the
Proclamation. They had stickers, foam shapes, markers.....you get the idea
. . . then the kids took their framed Proclamations home to display.
Ideas from Rebecca: One really neat thing our primary
did one year, was they had the the kids hand draw with crayons only and
printed on the vellum and it was framed over a white sheet with the color
picture of the temple underneath...It was a Mother's day gift and it
looked beautiful and was even more meaningful on the wall.
