Being a standard bearer
by Ivy Bonhorst /

I gave each girl a piece of ribbon
that I have put a metal washer on the end and witting CTR on the washer. This
was their necklace. The we talked about all the Gospel Standards and asked them
which ones they were willing to bear, or take upon themselves to uphold.
With each one that they were willing to bear, they got a heart made out of
card-tock that had a word on it to do with that particular Gospel Standard.
By the time we were finished, they each had on a colorful necklace with all the
Gospel Standards on it...or words relating to the Gospel Standards."
Along with the necklace, I'm asking the girls to bring their favorite teddy bear
to share... just as another draw-in to get the girls interested and tying into
the term 'standard *bear*er'. The girls can then place their completed necklaces
on their bears and share their bear with the group.
I'm also combining this with an FHE lesson that I got off another group, called
My Gospel Standards. Lesson overview:
Using article "Keep
the Commandments," article from June 2006 Friend, by Linda
Magleby. Print out My Gospel Standards cards. Use these cards along with
the gospel standards picture cards in the lesson. Lay the "My Gospel Standards"
cards face down in a pile and take turns picking one. Match the picked cards to
the corresponding picture cards. If time allows, have each person, on their
turn, name an example or experience they've had of living that standard. (These
cards could also be used to play a memory matching game by laying both sets face
down and finding each matching set. Other activity ideas can be found in the
above-named /Friend/ article.)
