Potato Printing

What you will need:

2 or 3 small potatoes
a knife
paint
paper

Decide on a shape or design (like a star, heart or circle).  Cut the potato in half and create your design on the end of the potato.  Carve around your shape so the shape sticks out from the rest of the potato.  Dip the shape into some paint.  Press the potato stamp down on some paper.

ADDITIONAL IDEA: "
With tight ward budgets and stamping being so popular this was a very good activity. You can use celery, carrots, green beans, green peppers, broccoli, mushrooms, etc. It's fun to see what each vegetable can look like simply by cutting it lengthwise, crosswise or diagonally. They were so creative with this. Of course you can do potato printing also but I wanted them to see that vegetables can make great designs without having to use a knife for carving. We used poster paints for this project."   (Idea by Peggy from Hartville, Ohio)
