Award Ideas

This page lists some ideas for award ideas.   If you have
others you would like to add,
e-mail them to me.

Plaque for their wall - Go to craft store and buy a medium sized plaque.  Have the girls decorate their plaques at one of the activities.  Then put in four screw hooks (one for each area in program).  Make rectangular pieces of cardstock with the name of the achievement and a picture representing that theme. (ie: Developing Talents...have a picture of pianist, girl playing soccer, etc.). Then laminate these and put a hole punch in the top. These will be their awards. They can hang them on the hooks on their plaque once they've achieved them.. Ideally, they will earn two for each achievement within the year. Supplied needed for this reward:  plaques, cardstock for pieces/awards, laminating material, hooks and hangers to go on the back of the plaque.

We are using candy molds (from a cake decorating or craft store), filling them with plaster, painting them, and gluing a pin to the back of them. There are all sorts of cute molds. We also purchased dowels, cheap muslin material and made a banner so each girl could pin their on their awards as they receive them. This has brought excitement and "Oh! Look at this one!" ...happy, enthused responses from the girls. (Idea from Julie Foth)

Necklaces - For these necklaces you will need: material cording called 'rattail,' necklace catches (whether it is hooks or the type that screws together), pony beads and shrinky-dink plastic. Trace some clipart that could represent each area on the shrinky-dink, color them with colored pencils and cut them out. At one of the meetings, have the girls each color their own set of charms.  Using a 1/16 inch hole punch, punch a hole in the top of each charm BEFORE putting in the oven, shrink them according to the package directions, and put them on jump rings (you can find all of the jewelry making items at Michael's or JoAnns).  As the girls earn their awards, let them choose a pony bead to go along with the charm. When finished the necklace should be beaded like this... bead-charm-bead-charm, etc. The girls were really excited to be participating in their own awards.  They did their own  coloring and assembled them themselves. (Idea by Laura)

I bought frames in the craft department. They are made to be painted and decorated. I painted them white and splattered them with other colors. Inside is the My Gospel Standard and their name is on the frame either written or painted or done in alphabet stickers. They receive a circle jewel to glue around the frame for each goal they accomplish.  For each year they complete they receive a heart jewel.  The frames were only 1.46 and the jewel came in packs of 110 for .96. It fit our budget and I think they turned out cute. (Idea by Helen)

T-shirts - Some wonderful person drew a big flower pot on a piece of paper.( You can copy these on a regular copier when finished , so that you don't have to make one for each girl).  In the flower pot they wrote "My Garden of Achievement" in block or bubble letters so the girls will be able to color them in. (Backwards, because when you transfer it it will be forward.)  Coming out of the pot was four  flowers (daises) for the four areas of achievement . The girls then colored the pages with Fabric Crayons. It is very important to use fabric crayons. After it is all colored you then iron the picture on a t-shirt. We used a paper bag between the iron and "transfer". This takes a while. The longer you iron the brighter the transfer. Now when the girls complete their two activities in an area of achievement they receive a jewel to fill in the middle of one of the flowers. We glue them with fabric glue. I have the girls bring their t-shirt in on the first meeting of the month and we do the gluing. (Idea from Linda)
