MeckMom Service Star DIY for #LIGHTtheWORLD

I’ve never been much of an advent girl. We have three birthdays and a ton of family/school events throughout the month of December so I inevitably fall behind on any daily plan. I designed these service stars to help my family remember to #LIGHTtheWORLD this month without the pressure of daily projects. Watch the video below for all the details.

#LIGHTtheWORLD: Christmas-in-a-Box Free Printable Kit from Brightly Street

Christmas is a time to spread the love of our Savior and that is why we are helping spread the word about the mormon.org campaign called #LIGHTtheWORLD.  This is all about finding simple ways to serve others.  So Sugardoodle has teamed up with some amazing bloggers who have created free printable kits to help you spread kindness to those around you.

Melia at Brightly Street has come up with a Christmas in a Box kit for you to use.  This free printable kit can be sent to someone who is away for the holidays or can just cheer up a friend. It would be fun to make as family too.  Here is Melia with more info about her printables:

All of the instructions and printables are completely FREE to use, however you will not find them here on Sugardoodle.  Instead we have shared them with some fabulous LDS bloggers and site owners who have each taken these printables and used them in their own way.  You can find them by visiting the #LIGHTtheWORLD main page and clicking on one of the supporting site links.  This list is growing daily, so check back often!

Scripture Clips/Bookmarks

Today I’m sharing a fun and trendy project perfect for your Young Women or even Activity Day Girls – scripture clips!

scripture-clip-close-up
If you’re familiar with paper planners you’ve probably heard already that they’re making a comeback and the accessories that come with them make planning, or in our case – Personal Progress, scripture reading, and earning the Honor Bee – a lot more fun.

These simple clips are a great place marker and who doesn’t love a little sparkle as a reminder to read their scriptures or work on their Personal Progress goals?

You can make the clips ahead of time and give them as birthday gifts or at your next Evening of Excellence, or this project would be great to include at a mutual activity to keep the girls busy while you had one-on-one time with each girl to pass off completed Personal Progress goals and select new ones.

You might even want to introduce the Honor Bee goal to your girls and encourage them to plan to earn this award as well when they finish their Personal Progress or as they work on earning their medallion. All you’d need is a cute “honey” themed dessert and you’ve got a simple and fun mutual activity!

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own scripture clips:

paper clips
adhesive
ribbon
rhinestone jewels*
hole punch
patterned paper

*any type of jewel or charm will do; however, these simple rhinestones are just a few dollars at Walmart or you can find similar ones in the dollar bins at Michael’s.

Select your jewels, adhere them to the end of the paper clip with a permanent adhesive (cover the back with a punched patterned paper circle) and allow to dry. Then knot a small length of ribbon under the jewel and you’ve got a scripture or Personal Progress book clip.

If you’re looking for a great way to help your girls plan Personal Progress goals, you can pick up a free printable (and use this cute clip) to attach it to their Personal Progress book.

The Honor Bee printables pictured are a great way to help the girls track their progress and can be found at Prickly Pear Design Co.
